[He's adorable.]
Need some help?
[She holds out her hand.]
no subject
[Just in case. Pot counts most places. Roman puts out his hand but is smart enough to not keep eye contact. Gotta save the googly eyes.]
Yeah. Thanks.
[He has enough balance to not pull her down with him. He's a tall mofo.]
I'm Roman.
[...Maybe she's heard of him...?]
no subject
Lydia.
How long have you been here?
[Her grip is firm, and she'll help keep him upright. She's also having a hard time not grinning in amusement.]
no subject
I dunno. Five minutes? Ten?
[He spent a bit of it staring since it all didn't go away. Shee-it. Her face.]
Where is here?
lydia = letha omg i didn't even think of that
This place is called The City. It's kind of everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. And time stands still here. You progress, but if and when you leave, you'll return to the moment you left.
Or so I'm told.
weeping ;;-;; he thinks this all means something and that he's in a coma or something again :(b
[Sniff as he might. Roman remembers that she's the messenger.]
...you believe all of that?
[Her hand is soft. Oh shit. Is he still holding it?]
no subject
I do. But then, I'm interested in the science.
no subject
[In that case he'll still hold on. Taking a good look around there are aspects that are deceiving enough to make this seem like a real place. Then a lizard walks by in a three piece suit.]
What's that got to do with science? Y'know there's a lot of unexplained stuff.
[Yes. Stuff.]
no subject
Oh, I know.
But it's all theoretical or arguably quantum physics and trust me, your eyes would glaze over. [Even more.]
So...we need to find you a place to stay, right? Are you hungry? Need coffee?
no subject
Weird shit.
[Woah now. He should say no on principle. He doesn't know her. She doesn't know a thing about him.]
All of the above sound good. [His eyes set on her and for the first time he's not blinded by the fact that she's young, beautiful and oh so nice to him.] ...wait. You mean I'm stuck here? Like not leaving?
no subject
Until whoever or whatever controls the City lets you go. Just like the rest of us. Time here does not pass back wherever you come from, and when you do go back, it'll be from the moment you left, and you won't remember any of this - unless you come back. And, from what I'm told, even then not always.
no subject
But-! I can't just-!
[Shelly could be out there. But she could be here. What about...anything! A few deep breaths now.]
Things are sort of heavy back home, you know?
no subject
Without any actual context, would you believe me if I said I completely understand?
But get this - time here is different. Whatever you're dealing with, it won't move on without you while you're here. You go back, you go back to the moment you left. So if you're worried about something you left behind...it'll still be there.
no subject
Suck it up, Roman. You're a warrior, right? You must make hear heart steel. It could be way worse, Lydia could have told him that God doesn't want him to be happy, he wants him to be strong.
Boy. It's warmer here right now than Pennsylvania.]
How can you be so sure, Lydia?
[Even though he's just met her the drive to believe someone, anyone is strong. And the uncanny Lethaness of her makes it better
and worse.]no subject
So last year an evil dead werewolf decided to spiritually control me from beyond the grave in order to be resurrected while nearly having me kill all of my friends. Most recently my English teacher who turned out to be an evil druid told me I was a banshee right before she attempted to kill me with a garrotte.
[Lydia lifts her chin, exposing the thin circle of bruising around her neck briefly.]
Shit's gotten really heavy.
no subject
I gotta get back home. My friend and I, we were hunting a vargulf that killed girls in the town. Some lady is out there who thinks that my friend did it. He's a werewolf too.
[But wait! There's more!]
My sister is six feet tall, mute and has respiratory issues. She killed it before we did. A cop went nuts, shot her and she ran away. I don't know where she is. My cousin was pregnant and died in childbirth.
[And-? There's a dark haze hanging over him, a locked door to his thoughts and memory. He doesn't have a key. Just the heaviest sense of dread on the brink of something.]
My mother is fucking psycho.
[So....]
no subject
[Stare.]
[Stare.]
[Stare.]
You win.
[After a beat,]
Like I said - you'll go back to the exact moment you left. I know that sounds impossible, but everyone I've spoken to whose come back says that's how it works.
no subject
I didn't mean it as a contest. Just. That's what's going on more or less.
[Shruuug.]
Did they tell you how to go back at all? Or just...pop in and pop out like whack a mole?
no subject
[Lydia presses her lips together, cocking her head to consider Roman.]
So. We need to find you a place, right? Even if temporarily?
