[Kivrin's busy peering into the fountain and trying to catch a glimpse of something, it's odd, the reflections in the water are the City one second and it seems like another world entirely the next. It feels like this could be a gateway of some sort because she's been told people tend to arrive in the fountain and perhaps it's like this world's net, or—

Splash.

She reels back, spluttering and a bit wet as well and she watches with wide eyes as someone comes stumbling out and towards her and she looks about as bewildered as he is, but.]

No, no. We're all perfectly sane. [Can she really say that with any great authority, though? She'd been delirious with fever only recently and she's still getting her bearings a few weeks later.] Of course, why believe a perfect stranger who says that? A hallucination would want to encourage the fantasy. [She dabs at the water on her face with her sleeve.] Technically speaking, I've only just arrived myself, so I don't think I'm the best person to explain it all to you.

[He laughs, but he doesn't sound particularly amused. Who would be, after getting dropped in the fountain? He had work to do, and there was a damn deadline he had to meet. That was about the only thing he had going for him right now, and like hell was he going to miss the deadline and get a talking to just because he'd been stuck in some kind of alternate dimension. No, he needs to get out of here, and quickly.]

I'm under the impression that there could have been some kind of... that somebody drugged me. Maybe. Probably. I know some people that'd do that. But I'm talking to you, and it all seems real, not like a drug-induced hallucination, so maybe...

[He leans in, just a little, to peer at her skeptically.]

Aliens, maybe? It could be aliens.

[Even with being here, she can't think that, it isn't something that exists in the future. It isn't in her books, it isn't what she's studied.]

People say it's magic. If anything, it's science more advanced than the technology and contemps suggest.

Not... really. I mean, not that we know of. There's gotta be something else out there, right? It's a big universe. I always thought I was a Martian or something.

[Mostly just because he's weird, not because of anything else.]

No, that's the problem. I'm not. It freaks me out, so I don't do it, but everyone I know does, and I'm thinking some of them could have drugged me. As some kind of joke, you know?
