[ kathryn has to press a hand to her mouth for a moment as a wave of emotion threatens to overcome her. when was the last time something or someone had the power to do that? she can't remember. if not mark's dear john letter, than kes' departure and her gift of bringing them lighyears closer to home. ]

We're not on the holodeck. [ though she'd be lying if she hadn't walked around for those first few weeks half convinced that she was, looking for access ports and occasionally asking the computer to end program or provide an exit. ] We're trapped in a city situated at the focal point of a temporal anomaly.

[The silence reigning for several moments on Kes’s end is probably doesn’t come as a surprise. It’s quite a leap from the innocent prank she has suspected at first and for a second she even feels her mind wrap around the idea that this was an elaborate trap and her captain’s message a smart ruse. But this is Kathryn Janeway alright, straight to the point – a quality Kes admires and hopes to adapt.]

… what do I do? [She tries to sound calm and composed despite the slight quiver in her voice, especially now that the forest around her suddenly doesn’t seem as safe anymore.] How can I find you? [First things first, she decides in a very Starfleet way, panic and questioning can come later.]

[ she hates this part of the welcome speech, as the city's a place where they'd have the freedom to be as open as the prime and temporal directives allowed them to be, were it not for the threat of a mad, tyrannical augment from the wrong time period. were it not for the innocents in the city who could be hurt in any potential crossfire or become victims of example, she likely would've already stood up to this man and made a move against him. khan was nothing in comparison to the borg -- but here, he was unfortunately something, no matter how much she didn't like it. ]

No, stay where you are; I'll find you. I've gotten pretty good at navigating this city. [ she's already out the door to do just that. ] In the mean time, I need you to pocket your combadge. Don't let anyone know that you have any connections to Starfleet. I'll explain more later.
