BUCKLE UP: A TEST DRIVE MEME

Been feeling as if you'd sort of, kind of, maybe like to consider a new character at Poly? Haven't had the chance to figure out whether they work for you in the setting or in general?

Just start a thread for them here with:

character name | series

- in the title, and tag around! Alternatively, just comment to someone else's thread, either doing your own thing, assuming characters just met in the City, or maybe working off one of the following premises:

i. ...it's raining people! The character whom you're tagging missed the memo about perfect Fountain landings and ended up falling on your character instead.

OR

ii. ...ah, a lovely evening at a City shop or bar, when you've just realized you don't have the currency to pay your tab and you have to beg or steal it off someone else!

OR

iii. ...your characters are running up an endlessly high hill from a herd of rabid pandas.

Naturally, the meme is more than open to people who aren't currently at Poly, so pimp this to poor souls you're hoping to enable, it's the perfect time to lure'im in ♥

[ Better her than a perfect stranger.

Standing up and brushing dirt off his suit before holding out a hand to her. ] Ariadne. I apologise.

[ He doesn't know where he is or what happened, but that doesn't mean that basic politeness must suffer. ]

[ Ow. Ariadne shifts, shaking out one arm before realizing just who's landed on her. Oh. Oh.

Her eyes widen a bit, but she takes his offered hand, pulling herself up. ] It's okay. It's not your fault.

[ There's a pause as she brushes some dirt off her pants. ] The City isn't always very polite about entrances.

The City? [ At least his suit survived the entrance.

On to more important matters: ] Is this a dream?

It's not a very original name, I know.

[ There's a shake of her head, her hand unconsciously going over the bishop in her pocket. ] No. We're not sure what it is, exactly -- an alternate reality, maybe -- but it's not a dream.

An alternate reality. [ Brushing off some more dirt from his suit; it gives him a moment to gather his thoughts and school his expression. ] That is inconvenient.

There are people from all sorts of places here. You'll want to watch out for the vampires. [ How helpful of you, Ariadne. ]

Vampires. [ Of course. He'll have to corrobate your advice, but he'll take it into account. ] Anything else?

Among other things. [ There's a slight laugh. Anything else? She hasn't even scratched the surface. ] The City's run by the deities. The deities presumably control the curses, which are strange events that happen every few days -- usually for twenty-four hours, sometimes longer.

And you are certain this is not a dream? [ It certainly sounds fantastical. ]

Eames and I both are. It's definitely not one of our dreams, or anything like one. [ "Our" here meaning the dreams from their world, with the PASIV. ]

Very well. [ Clasping his hands behind his back. ] I suggest we have tea while you tell me more of this place.

Would you like to go to a teahouse or should I show you where we've all been living?

There is a teahouse here? [ Perhaps this place is civilised after all, even if it made him fall on top of Ariadne. ]

There is. [ A bit of a smile. ] It's called the Jasmine Dragon. A friend of mine works there.
