BUCKLE UP: A TEST DRIVE MEME

Been feeling as if you'd sort of, kind of, maybe like to consider a new character at Poly? Haven't had the chance to figure out whether they work for you in the setting or in general?

Just start a thread for them here with:

character name | series

- in the title, and tag around! Alternatively, just comment to someone else's thread, either doing your own thing, assuming characters just met in the City, or maybe working off one of the following premises:

i. ...it's raining people! The character whom you're tagging missed the memo about perfect Fountain landings and ended up falling on your character instead.

OR

ii. ...ah, a lovely evening at a City shop or bar, when you've just realized you don't have the currency to pay your tab and you have to beg or steal it off someone else!

OR

iii. ...your characters are running up an endlessly high hill from a herd of rabid pandas.

Naturally, the meme is more than open to people who aren't currently at Poly, so pimp this to poor souls you're hoping to enable, it's the perfect time to lure'im in ♥

Yeah. Weird how it happened. [The tone probably suggests she's not going to discuss it.] Why is that a surprise, though? I mean...vampire status not included.

[That's good, because he doesn't want to hear about it.] He's a dweeb, McGee. So am I. We're losers. We're complete nerds with action figures and comic book collections. Hell, we used to LARP in my backyard.

I find dweebs and geeks sexy. [A half-smile forms on her face.] Outside of here? If my life had room for it, I woulda definitely gone for a dweeb.

[She's trying so hard to dislike you on Ed's behalf, Brewster. Stop being like-able. Right now. No? Well, shit.] Yeah, I like the geeks and the dweebs and the nerds. It's the jocks and popular kids I usually want to defenestrate. Probably a good thing I was home-schooled.

Man, you should meet Mark. He's seriously the biggest asshole jock on the planet. [Who... Charley pretended to be friends with. Ugh.] I was kind of a douchebag, too--trying to be all cool so Amy'd like me. Public high schools are the worst.

...Besides Jerry. Jerry's the worst, followed by public high schools. The SATs and jocks tie for third.

I probably shouldn't meet Mark, then. I'd probably hit him. Repeatedly. [Ed and candy hearts told her, Squid Boy. Squid Man? She forgets. Whichever.] And...seriously? Pretending to be someone you're not, just so someone will like you? That sounds a little dishonest, Charley.

Charlie, puh-lease, everyone except Mark'd love that.

[It's Squid MAN. Manly squid. And that whole trying to be cool thing isn't something Brewster's proud of right now.] Yeah, it was stupid... not completely dishonest, though. I'm pretty sure I really was turning into one of those cool kids.

now I almost want to see McGee smacking Mark for some gross comment or another.

Don't be one of those cool kids, Charley. Not for a second. I hear they're kind of rude.

It would be inevitable if he was around.

Yeah, I know. I wish some would've told me before I ditched my friends.

Ed's probably never going to forgive you. Not fully. But if you're around, and he's human for a day, we should try to do something. The three of us. Might help.

Probably not. [That sucks. A lot. That's never going to not suck.] I'd do that, sure.

[charring]

You'll be alright here, Charley. Make friends. Get a pet to help with the ticking. Be prepared to be cursed with stupid shit at any moment and you'' be fine.

I can handle stupid shit. [He's not sure what to do with this friendliness.] Hey, Charlie... thanks. You're being pretty cool considering what Ed's probably said about me.

Ask Ed next time you see him how stubborn a pain in the ass I am when it comes to listening to others opinions on the people I talk to. [Small smirk.] It pisses people off constantly.

Maybe I will if he can stop wanting me dead for two seconds. [He shoots her a grin.] Yeah? It sounds like a good way to be.

Oh, it's the best way to be. I've been this way for twenty-one years and I'm not quitting any time soon. [He gets a slightly more relaxed grin in return.] Good luck with Ed.
