Howard is FUN. I'm having a lot of fun with Howl's interactions with other men his age because he literally has NONE in his source material. And I like that way Howl and Howard just fell into this easy friendship. Howl likes not being pinned down and having to make real decisions about things, so that fact that they can just be chill and get drinks and not talk about anything serious has endeared Howard to him. And Howard is a tinkerer, which Howl respects. He does that as well with magic spells - picking them apart and finding how they work and making them better. I think Howard is quickly one of the people Howl actually gives a damn about in the City and would willingly check up on.
