tessa is really accepting, even if they don’t always have the same viewpoints (because curtis has this dark cloud), which makes her really, really, really easy to talk to. the fact that he opened up to her so quickly without intending to shows how much he thinks he can trust her, which he really can’t say for a lot of people. to him, she’s generally a caring person and one of the few that can actually make him s m i l e. this is a big deal. she almost makes him optimistic, or at least he tries to be for her. how much he trusts and likes her ties into how much he’s willing to look out for her, too, as people tend to have a habit of dying or getting into trouble around our beloved misfits characters. she’s a friend, probably one of his closest ones, and he’s not letting anything happen to her if he can stop it.
